One Month

Day 31: For the past few days, I've been working on my car fence and today I finally got it done. Right now I just have a car that I move as my gate. I'm going to have to come up with something easier, though. I have noticed a lot less zombies in my perimeter. Actually I have noticed a lot less zombies around in general. Maybe living alone atracts less of them and is therefore safer. I heard the radio message about Fort McCoy yesterday again, but maybe I'll just stay here instead. Yesterday when I was out looking for cars for my fence, I heard a few shotgun blasts. They were actually pretty close by and after a half hour of searching, found four dead zombies and some shotgun shells on the ground. I have yet to meet this person, though. I wonder if it could be Hank, or just some other survivor. I realized today that its been a month since the zombie outbreak. It seems a lot longer than that most days. I have no idea how long I'll be able to survive, but hopefully I can still grow old. Maybe civilization will eventually return. Who really knows, though.

The Biggest Zombie I Ever Saw

Day 27: I decided to venture out of the safety of the police station today. It was the first time since I escaped from the shed. The only time I spent outside the past couple of days was up on the roof, but I'm running low on food. I walked to the closest house and broke inside. There were two zombies inside that I shot down. Then I rummaged through the cupboards for food. I found an unopened bag of chips and some canned pineapple. I found a big bag of dog food, too. Eeyore will be happy. I packed my bag and headed back home. I went back through the front door, closed it and turned around.

I nearly shit my pants. Standing in front of me was the biggest damn zombie I have ever seen. He was 6 and 1/2 or 7 feet tall and 350 pounds. I instinctively raised my handgun and fired. All I heard, though, was click. I was out of ammo. I dropped the dog food and dodged his grasp. I then raised the wooden baseball bat I had with me. I swung too low and hit his shoulder and snapped the bat in half. Not knowing what else to do, I started to stab him with the broken end, but he kept coming. Then I went for the eye and popped it on the first try. It seemed like he didn't even fell it because he didn't slow down at all. I went for the empty eye socket again and again and again. Finally I went deeper and he fell to his knees and then completely over. I was sweating bullets and trying to catch my breath. I heard some moaning noises behind me and realized some other zombies have shown up. I didn't want to take them on with half a bat and an empty handgun. I grabbed the bag of dog food and ran back to the station.

My Escape from a Shed

Day 24: I woke up this morning. Do you know what that means? It means I was actually able to get some sleep. I woke up and could see sunlight shining through the high windows in the shed. Also, there was no pounding on the door. I stood up and my whole outlook changed. The pounding started again and I heard the moaning sounds coming from outside. I just had to get out of there. I took a look around and spotted a useful weapon, a chainsaw with a full tank of gas. I also noticed as couple cans of paint thinner, a lighter, and some rags. I formulated a plan to use the chainsaw to get out and pour paint thinner all over to blow up the shed and the surrounding zombies. I found a pair of goggles and them on along with one of the rags over my mouth. I dumped out all but one of the cans out on the floor of the shed. I stuck a rag in the other can to make a molotov cocktail type of contraption. I started up the chainsaw and opened the door. There was a good sized horde outside. I chopped my way through them and then quickly lit the rag and threw it inside the shed and turned and ran. I got to the road and heard a huge explosion. Paint thinner must not have been the only flammable thing in that shed. I turned around and a the shed was gone and there were pieces of zombies all over the place. Others were set on fire. It actually worked. I proceeded to start running again and made it back to the station, chopping up zombies whenever they got in my way. I think I might just stay in the station for a couple of days and not venture outside the safety of here. I thought for sure I would die in that shed. Eeyore was very happy to see me, though, especially because I brought a little bit of food for him. I was very happy to see him too.

Going Grocery Shopping Again

Day 23: What a day today was and its still not over yet. I can't wait for daylight to come. I started off by driving to the grocery store this afternoon. As soon as I got outside, I noticed an unusally low amount of zombies around. On my way to the store, I saw only a handful of them. I parked right up by the doors and started my shopping. I rounded a corner in the store with my second load in my cart and I stopped dead in my tracks. I could even see my truck anymore. There was a horde of zombies pounding on the glass doors trying to get in. Good thing I disabled the automatic doors. I went back around the corner, so that they couldn't see me to regroup and think of a plan. I filled my survival backpack with as much food as I could and set off to explore the store for another way out.

I didn't get very far when I heard the sound of glass breaking and I knew exactly what it meant. I didn't have much time to get out of here. I stumbled upon a door leading outside back by the loading docks. I opened it and peaked outside. There were zombies everywhere, but I thought I might have a chance of escape if I ran for it. I sprinted out the door and to the park across the street. They were coming out of the woodwork. I didn't know if I could make it back to the station on foot. To make matters worse, daylight was fading fast. I had to find someplace to hide and then I noticed a small building in the park and ran in that direction. I made it to the door and thank God it was unlocked. I threw it open and tumbled inside, exhausted from the sprint.

Right away I heard the distinctive sounds of a walking corpse and then the smell hit me. I fumble for my flashlight in my backpack and turned it on in the nick of time. About two feet away from me was a zombie. I instinctively raised the flashlight and brought it down on the zombie's head. 4 hits later, it was laying on the ground with its brains spilling out. All I can say is thank goodness it was one of those heavy duty flashlights. I took a look around and saw that I was in some kind of store room. All of a sudden, there was a banging on the door and I was brought back to reality. I locked the door and sat on the concrete floor, not knowing what to do next. All I could do was listen to the zombies outside. I have no idea how many are out there, but it doesn't really matter. It only takes one of them to end it all. Now I might die in this glorified store shed surrounded by zombies just because I ran away from my truck. It was my only means of transportation. I just hope I can at least make it through the night and then come up with a plan when its light outside. Thats as long as the sounds of the undead don't drive me insane.

Interesting signs

Day 22: I continued work on my car fence yesterday and today. However, while doing my usual searching, I came across something interesting. I found some dead zombies that I did not see yesterday. Some of them had their head bashed in and others looked like they were shot in the head. I even found some shell casings in some cases. It looks like someone is running around with a shotgun taking out zombies. I hope they are friendly to those who are still alive. I have not heard any gunshots or loud noises lately, though. I'll have to keep an eye out for more clues and be careful at the same time. I don't want to run into a gun-toting maniac. I already met one maniac in this world and one is enough. Then again, maybe it could be Hank. I think he is still out there somewhere. He told me he didn't like to use guns, though, because it was too easy. Now that he's on his own, maybe he changed his tune. I think I'm going to have to go grocery shopping again soon. Eeyore and I are both starting to run low on food. I think tomorrow I'll take a trek in that direction.

Radio Message

Day 20: Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I was just about to leave to do some searching when I was walking past the radio room and heard a message. He called himself Eric and was part of a group of survivors at Fort McCoy. They have been able to hold off zombie hordes and are sending out a message to all survivors everywhere to come and join them. I wasn't sure where Fort McCoy was, so I looked it up. Its quite a ways west of here. Kinda on the way to La Crosse. It would take several hours just driving there, but who knows what the roads are like and I don't have much gas left. A second thought popped into my mind. What if its just a trick to get people to come and find out its not a group of survivors. Instead its a milita group that out to get as much supplies and everything for themselves. I've seen plenty of apocalypse movies to know that not everyone is willing to help each other. Theres those that just see it as a new opportunity to take advantage of people. For this reason, I didn't try to radio back. I don't need people like that trying to find me. I'll keep it open as an option, though, in case I get overrun here. For now, I'm just going to work on my fence. I was able to start moving cars into place today, though. Its a start at least, but no Simpson so far.

I Miss The Simpsons

Day 19: Nothing too exciting happened yesterday or today. I did notice that all zombies that Hank and I killed are now replaced by others. Its getting warmer outside too, so I guess summer is coming. I going to try to come up with some sort of fence idea that I can build around the police station. I would like to be able to spend some time outside without fear of a zombie attack and have some room to play with Eeyore. The fence would have to be strong, though, so that a big horde of zombies can't knock it over and it has to have some way that I can still get out. I'm going to start to brainstorm some ideas. Plus it will give me some thing to work towards and take my mind off things.
I did realize one thing tonight. I really miss The Simpsons. I used to watch that show almost everyday. Now that all the TV stations are off the air, I can't watch it. I don't know if that means that I'm shallow or anything that I miss a TV show of all things. I mean, I miss my family and friends too. Sometimes its the simple things that affect you the most or something like that. I'm not sure anymore. I know theres a TV and DVD player here in the police station, so I'm going to keep an eye out for the DVDs. Hopefully I'll find a couple before the power is turned off.
