Debate

Day 45: William and I talked most of the day today. He is planning to leave tomorrow and wants me to go with him. I declined his offer and told him it might be a better idea to stay here. I told him my doubts about Fort McCoy being a safe haven, not to mention the trek there. Here there is food and supplies and I know the city pretty well. We would be safe here for a long time. He disagreed and told me he is still planning on heading to Fort McCoy, but agreed to debate the two sides with everyone and let them decide on what each person wants to do.

We just got done discussing going to Fort McCoy versus staying here. By the sound of everyone's response, I think they all will pretty much go with William. I'm staying here, though. In my opinion, its a lot more safe, at least until winter comes. I'm not saying that the fort is not safe, but no one knows for sure. Nobody has been able to radio to them. All we hear is the same message. I may decide to travel there later if the city is no longer safe. Besides the fort, we started to talk about what caused all this. I heard everything from it being aliens, a government conspiracy to terrorists. No one could agree on whether its worldwide or not. We'll probably never know. One thing is for sure. Its pretty nice talking to a group of people again. We never appreciate things until they are gone.

Allies?

Day 44: I woke up this morning and went up to the roof of the building to have a look outside. It took me a little while to find out how to get up there, but once I did, I had an amazing site. I looked down and there was a circular mound of dead zombies surrounding the militia and there were still zombies crawling out of the woodwork. The militia had to be running out of ammo soon, though. All of sudden I saw a flash out in the distance. I couldn't tell what it was, but noticed something flying in my direction. Then I could hear the whoosh just as an explosion erupted where the mound used to be. Seconds later, a militia truck blew up. A few seconds later, another one blew up. There was a few who survived the explosion, but were badly injured. In a matter of minutes, they were zombie food. I looked back to the area where the rocket came from and saw a group of about 20 people marching towards the building. I could tell that most of them were armed. I ducked down while stilling trying to keep an eye on them. About 10 minutes later, they reached the front up to store. I must have not hid good enough because they called up to me and said they came in peace. They have ran into the militia back when their group was about 35 people. I got up and saw that they were made up of men, women, and children. I ran down to let them in, filling Thomas in on the way. Their leader's name was William and they were on their way to Fort McCoy, gathering up more survivors as they made their way there. They heard the radio message too. He was in Green Bay when the outbreak happened. After their run in with the militia, they decided to head to the fort and take their chances. I filled them in on my story and Thomas did the same. We decided to secure the store better and stay here for the night. Its nice to actually see a bigger group of survivors that are not shooting at me.

What Were We Thinking

Day 43: Thomas and I decided to go back to Wal-Mart today to get some more supplies. We took our ammo and bats with us and left just like we did yesterday. We went around to the back door that we left from yesterday. We spent a couple hours packing some bags when we heard gunshots. I have no idea how, but the militia found us again. They were gunning down the zombies in front of the automatic doors that didn't open anymore. I went in the back to secure all the doors back there while Thomas went to the front to keep an eye out. I got out into the main store when I heard gunshots. I knew they came from inside the store. Then I heard Thomas yelling "I dare you to try it again. Now theres only 12 of you bastards." I made it up front and another militia member was lying on the floor with a bullet in his head. We looted the body and got another handgun, an assault rifle, and some ammo. We could tell that they backed off a bit. We took advantage of the opportunity by looking for things we could use as a weapon. There was no guns or ammo, but plenty of flammable liquids. Gathered up as much as we could along with rags and bottles. After about an hour, we had several molotov cocktails. We finished just in time to see another guy run up to the door. Before he could let off a shot, Thomas lit and threw a bottle at him. The door erupted into flames, but I think he got away. All we had to do was hold them off. Its just a matter of time before a horde of zombies show up outside. I think they are already starting to arrive because I hear shots outside that are not directed towards us. Its starting to get dark and Thomas is yelling at me for writing instead of keeping an eye outside on them. I did not fight for my life during the first couple days for it to end at the hands of another survivor. I'll take them all out if I have to.

It Survived the Apocalypse

Day 42: We are out of food again. We have no other choice but to go out again. Thomas and I are not looking forward to it considering the last time we went grocery shopping, we almost didn't make it back. This time we are headed to Wal-Mart. Its only about a block away, so it shouldn't be too bad. We left in the late morning with whatever supplies we needed. We hoped we would make it back to our house. There were still large hordes of zombies everywhere, but made it to the store relatively easily. The automatic doors didn't work anymore, so we had to pry them open. We stepped inside and took a look around. After everything that happened, Wal-Mart looked the same. There were people everywhere. Well, actually they were zombies. Some of them were still wearing their blue vests and kinda wandering around. It didn't last long, though. One zombie noticed us and let out a moan. Soon every zombie in the store was headed towards us. We turned to look at each other and new what we had to do. We bashed in the skulls of the two closest zombies. We stood our ground for as long as we could and then retreated back out the door. We figured we would try to lure them all out and the run back inside and close the door. It actually worked pretty well and there were only a handful of zombies left inside. We spent a couple hours packing up as much food and supplies as we could. We found a back door that was free of zombies and high tailed it back to our house. We made it back safely with plenty of food and supplies. We might actually try it again tomorrow to get more to stock up.

Hell Breaking Loose

Day 40: One of our worst fears happened today. We woke up this morning to a loud explosion that shook the building and then we heard a voice. "Come out and surrender or else" it said. We realized that somehow the militia found us and apparently we did kill one of them. Thats what the voice of the leader said anyways. If we didn't surrender, they would "burn the building down and let the undead dead feast on our charred remains." Thomas and I discussed our opions. We both agreed that we had to get out of there. Before we could do anything, another explosion rocked the building. A few minutes later, there were the sounds of the undead at our door leading to the stairs. Time had run out. Thomas, scared to death, ran to the window and took a shot at one of the militia members. I pulled him away just before the window was shattered by a machine gun. Thomas said he killed another one, though. It was still 13 to 2. I didn't like our odds. We couldn't take them on. By the sound of it, they had the firepower to level the building without stepping foot in it. We ran to the other side of the building to see if there was any chance we could jump somewhere when more gunfire came flying in our direction. They had the building surrounded. We were totally screwed!

Not much later, we could still hear gunfire, but it wasn't directed at us anymore. I peaked out the window and couldn't believe what a saw. All the excitment attracted what looked like all the zombies in town. The militia was fighting for their lives and now was our chance. We quickly packed up all our supplies and fought through the crowd right outside our stairwell door and went down to the first floor. We made our way to the back door with Eeyore right behind us. We quietly opened the door and sprinted away. One of the militia spotted us and fired a couple rounds in our direction. The zombies were a bigger threat to his life, so he returned his attention on them. We ran as far as we could and made it to a house about a block away from a Wal-Mart. The house was clear of zombies and we were hidden. We were safe for the time being.

No Food

Day 39: Today, Thomas and I were all out of food. We had to make a run to the store, but there were still zombies everywhere and we didn't know if the militia was still out there. We had no other options, though. We pack as much ammo as we could and both grabbed a bat. I left a pile of food for Eeyore and we headed out. We made it to the store alright, leaving a trail of dead zombies behind us. The store was swarming with them as well. We took out a majority of them before we started gathering food. We were able to get a backpack filled when all of a sudden automatic gunfire erupted. The militia must still be here and tracked us here. We ran for cover as fast as we could, which there was very little of it. The entire front of the store is all glass windows, so those lasted about 2 seconds. I remembered about the rear exit and we started to make our way in that direction. At least now, there were hardly any zombies left in the store due to the gunfire. We made it out just as the militia was entering. Thomas and I took a couple shots at them and might of hit one. We didn't stick around to find out, though. We took off and headed towards the nearest block of buildings. We managed to lose them when we went through several of them. Eventually we made it back to our office building. We only got enough food to last a couple of days. We're going to have to out again soon and be more careful.

Discussion of Origins

Day 37: The undead were just as abundant today as they were yesterday. Therefore, Thomas and I decided to sit tight for another day. We really low on food, so we are going to have to do something tomorrow. With two people, it should be a little easier, though. We did talk a little more today and got into a discussion about where the zombies came from. He thinks it was some virus that the government created. Some how it escaped and spead throughout the world. Before the government could stop it, most of the country was infected. If thats the case, it couldn't have been an airborn virus because there are still some survivors out there like us. It could have a been another country that attacked us and unleashed it upon us. If thats what happened, how come none of our allies have helped us. I have not seen a single helicopter or plane since the outbreak. Unless it spread so quickly and managed to infect the rest of the world. Neither of us has not heard if the rest of the world is infected or not. We are both just assuming it is. We did bring up the whole religious explaination and that its God punishing the world. I don't really know what started it all. I don't think it being a virus made by the government is all that far-fetched. Thomas said he remembers hearing about the Nazis trying to reanimate the dead during World War II. I don't know if that is true or not, but I wouldn't put it past them. They would have done anything to win the war. I doubt we will find out what really caused it all. Right now I'm focused on just surviving and maybe seeing some kind of civilization forming again.

...and Hell Followed Them

Day 36: When I woke up this morning, Thomas was sitting next to a window just staring out it. I got up and walked over by him and looked out myself. I was shocked. The streets were filled with the undead. They must have followed the noise of the militia. We are totally screwed. Theres no way we could survive a trek anywhere now. Plus, we could hear gunshots off in the distance. The militia must still be around somewhere. To make matters worse, we have enough food for only a few more days and Eeyore's shit and piss will start to pile up. The only thing going for us is that we have plenty of shotgun and handgun ammo. Thank goodness for a trigger happy police force. We spent the day barricading the downstairs door just in case they zombies wanted to get in here. So far they haven't noticed us, though.

By the time we were all done, it was pretty late, but we started talking. Thomas didn't have much family, only a brother. When the outbreak happened. Thomas went to his house to find him. It was too late, though. His brother was already turned. Thomas couldn't bring himself to kill him. He just ran instead and has been running ever since. He keeps holding on to hope that he is still out there and that they will find a cure some day to turn him back. We both no that will never happen. The first survivors he found were the militia members. He escaped from them and ended up here. After reliving this events, Thomas didn't want to talk anymore. He went back to staring out the window and I went to bed.

The Four Horsemen...

Day 35: Well, Thomas was right. At a little bit after noon, we heard gunshots. They sounded far away, but at least within the city limits. About an hour later, we saw them. We were able to watch out of a third story window. There were four pickup trucks and 15 armed men. Just like Thomas said. They went right for the police station and plowed through the car fence. A couple hours later, they exited the station, but with not much supplies. They must not have found my stash. At one time, I thought we were going be found. Eeyore stared barking, so I put him in a closet for the time being. I didn't want to, but I didn't want to be found either. One of the guys looked in our direction when Eeyore bark, so I'm guessing he heard it. He looked around for a couple seconds and then went back to what he was doing. Thomas and I stayed quiet for the rest of the day and night. I still don't know if they are still here in the city somewhere or if they left. I don't want to take any chances though. I'm hearing more zombie moans coming from outside, but I have yet to take a look outside. The electricity is still on so the street lights work, but I'm just going to bury my head in the sand until morning. We are safe for the time being.

Trouble on the Way

Day 34: I was running pretty low on food, so I decided to take my chances and go back to the grocery store this morning. While I was gathering cars for I found another decent truck to use to move around. There was a sparse population of the undead around this morning until I reached the store. They were all over inside, but my old police SUV was still sitting just outside the doors. I thought that if I was quick, I could hop in there and take it back to the station. The back was about half full of food, so that would last me a little while. That way, I wouldn't have to risk going inside for food. The plan went off without a hitch. On the way back was where things took a twist...

I was a couple blocks from the station when a man ran in the middle of the road to flag me down. I could tell right away from his movements that he wasn't a zombie. He looked to be in pretty bad shape, though. I was bruised, beaten, and bloody. His news wasn't any better. He told me a militia of about 15 armed men was headed in this direction about a days drive away. I was not sure if I could trust him, but I didn't want to risk not listening to him. He told be everything he knew. His name is Thomas and he was from Green Bay. He survived there as long as he could until he was driven away by the militia. They attacked him, but he was able to escape. They have been following him ever since.

Then I realized something. The moment they saw my car fence, they would know that there is someone alive here. It may stop the zombies pretty well, but it won't do much to humans. We had to move somewhere else. Thomas and I found a building a couple blocks away. It was some sort of office building, but it was only 3 stories high. We moved most of my supplies, weapons, and food over there. I discoverd a heavy duty safe in the basement of the police station during one of my exploration trips in the station. I secretly hid some stuff in the safe in case Thomas was lying and tried to steal everything from me. This way, I would still have a little bit of supplies. It was pretty late once we got everything moved, so we tried to get some sleep. Eeyore slept next to me all night. I couldn't sleep at all, though. I had no idea what tomorrow would bring.

One Month

Day 31: For the past few days, I've been working on my car fence and today I finally got it done. Right now I just have a car that I move as my gate. I'm going to have to come up with something easier, though. I have noticed a lot less zombies in my perimeter. Actually I have noticed a lot less zombies around in general. Maybe living alone atracts less of them and is therefore safer. I heard the radio message about Fort McCoy yesterday again, but maybe I'll just stay here instead. Yesterday when I was out looking for cars for my fence, I heard a few shotgun blasts. They were actually pretty close by and after a half hour of searching, found four dead zombies and some shotgun shells on the ground. I have yet to meet this person, though. I wonder if it could be Hank, or just some other survivor. I realized today that its been a month since the zombie outbreak. It seems a lot longer than that most days. I have no idea how long I'll be able to survive, but hopefully I can still grow old. Maybe civilization will eventually return. Who really knows, though.

The Biggest Zombie I Ever Saw

Day 27: I decided to venture out of the safety of the police station today. It was the first time since I escaped from the shed. The only time I spent outside the past couple of days was up on the roof, but I'm running low on food. I walked to the closest house and broke inside. There were two zombies inside that I shot down. Then I rummaged through the cupboards for food. I found an unopened bag of chips and some canned pineapple. I found a big bag of dog food, too. Eeyore will be happy. I packed my bag and headed back home. I went back through the front door, closed it and turned around.

I nearly shit my pants. Standing in front of me was the biggest damn zombie I have ever seen. He was 6 and 1/2 or 7 feet tall and 350 pounds. I instinctively raised my handgun and fired. All I heard, though, was click. I was out of ammo. I dropped the dog food and dodged his grasp. I then raised the wooden baseball bat I had with me. I swung too low and hit his shoulder and snapped the bat in half. Not knowing what else to do, I started to stab him with the broken end, but he kept coming. Then I went for the eye and popped it on the first try. It seemed like he didn't even fell it because he didn't slow down at all. I went for the empty eye socket again and again and again. Finally I went deeper and he fell to his knees and then completely over. I was sweating bullets and trying to catch my breath. I heard some moaning noises behind me and realized some other zombies have shown up. I didn't want to take them on with half a bat and an empty handgun. I grabbed the bag of dog food and ran back to the station.

My Escape from a Shed

Day 24: I woke up this morning. Do you know what that means? It means I was actually able to get some sleep. I woke up and could see sunlight shining through the high windows in the shed. Also, there was no pounding on the door. I stood up and my whole outlook changed. The pounding started again and I heard the moaning sounds coming from outside. I just had to get out of there. I took a look around and spotted a useful weapon, a chainsaw with a full tank of gas. I also noticed as couple cans of paint thinner, a lighter, and some rags. I formulated a plan to use the chainsaw to get out and pour paint thinner all over to blow up the shed and the surrounding zombies. I found a pair of goggles and them on along with one of the rags over my mouth. I dumped out all but one of the cans out on the floor of the shed. I stuck a rag in the other can to make a molotov cocktail type of contraption. I started up the chainsaw and opened the door. There was a good sized horde outside. I chopped my way through them and then quickly lit the rag and threw it inside the shed and turned and ran. I got to the road and heard a huge explosion. Paint thinner must not have been the only flammable thing in that shed. I turned around and a the shed was gone and there were pieces of zombies all over the place. Others were set on fire. It actually worked. I proceeded to start running again and made it back to the station, chopping up zombies whenever they got in my way. I think I might just stay in the station for a couple of days and not venture outside the safety of here. I thought for sure I would die in that shed. Eeyore was very happy to see me, though, especially because I brought a little bit of food for him. I was very happy to see him too.

Going Grocery Shopping Again

Day 23: What a day today was and its still not over yet. I can't wait for daylight to come. I started off by driving to the grocery store this afternoon. As soon as I got outside, I noticed an unusally low amount of zombies around. On my way to the store, I saw only a handful of them. I parked right up by the doors and started my shopping. I rounded a corner in the store with my second load in my cart and I stopped dead in my tracks. I could even see my truck anymore. There was a horde of zombies pounding on the glass doors trying to get in. Good thing I disabled the automatic doors. I went back around the corner, so that they couldn't see me to regroup and think of a plan. I filled my survival backpack with as much food as I could and set off to explore the store for another way out.

I didn't get very far when I heard the sound of glass breaking and I knew exactly what it meant. I didn't have much time to get out of here. I stumbled upon a door leading outside back by the loading docks. I opened it and peaked outside. There were zombies everywhere, but I thought I might have a chance of escape if I ran for it. I sprinted out the door and to the park across the street. They were coming out of the woodwork. I didn't know if I could make it back to the station on foot. To make matters worse, daylight was fading fast. I had to find someplace to hide and then I noticed a small building in the park and ran in that direction. I made it to the door and thank God it was unlocked. I threw it open and tumbled inside, exhausted from the sprint.

Right away I heard the distinctive sounds of a walking corpse and then the smell hit me. I fumble for my flashlight in my backpack and turned it on in the nick of time. About two feet away from me was a zombie. I instinctively raised the flashlight and brought it down on the zombie's head. 4 hits later, it was laying on the ground with its brains spilling out. All I can say is thank goodness it was one of those heavy duty flashlights. I took a look around and saw that I was in some kind of store room. All of a sudden, there was a banging on the door and I was brought back to reality. I locked the door and sat on the concrete floor, not knowing what to do next. All I could do was listen to the zombies outside. I have no idea how many are out there, but it doesn't really matter. It only takes one of them to end it all. Now I might die in this glorified store shed surrounded by zombies just because I ran away from my truck. It was my only means of transportation. I just hope I can at least make it through the night and then come up with a plan when its light outside. Thats as long as the sounds of the undead don't drive me insane.

Interesting signs

Day 22: I continued work on my car fence yesterday and today. However, while doing my usual searching, I came across something interesting. I found some dead zombies that I did not see yesterday. Some of them had their head bashed in and others looked like they were shot in the head. I even found some shell casings in some cases. It looks like someone is running around with a shotgun taking out zombies. I hope they are friendly to those who are still alive. I have not heard any gunshots or loud noises lately, though. I'll have to keep an eye out for more clues and be careful at the same time. I don't want to run into a gun-toting maniac. I already met one maniac in this world and one is enough. Then again, maybe it could be Hank. I think he is still out there somewhere. He told me he didn't like to use guns, though, because it was too easy. Now that he's on his own, maybe he changed his tune. I think I'm going to have to go grocery shopping again soon. Eeyore and I are both starting to run low on food. I think tomorrow I'll take a trek in that direction.

Radio Message

Day 20: Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I was just about to leave to do some searching when I was walking past the radio room and heard a message. He called himself Eric and was part of a group of survivors at Fort McCoy. They have been able to hold off zombie hordes and are sending out a message to all survivors everywhere to come and join them. I wasn't sure where Fort McCoy was, so I looked it up. Its quite a ways west of here. Kinda on the way to La Crosse. It would take several hours just driving there, but who knows what the roads are like and I don't have much gas left. A second thought popped into my mind. What if its just a trick to get people to come and find out its not a group of survivors. Instead its a milita group that out to get as much supplies and everything for themselves. I've seen plenty of apocalypse movies to know that not everyone is willing to help each other. Theres those that just see it as a new opportunity to take advantage of people. For this reason, I didn't try to radio back. I don't need people like that trying to find me. I'll keep it open as an option, though, in case I get overrun here. For now, I'm just going to work on my fence. I was able to start moving cars into place today, though. Its a start at least, but no Simpson so far.

I Miss The Simpsons

Day 19: Nothing too exciting happened yesterday or today. I did notice that all zombies that Hank and I killed are now replaced by others. Its getting warmer outside too, so I guess summer is coming. I going to try to come up with some sort of fence idea that I can build around the police station. I would like to be able to spend some time outside without fear of a zombie attack and have some room to play with Eeyore. The fence would have to be strong, though, so that a big horde of zombies can't knock it over and it has to have some way that I can still get out. I'm going to start to brainstorm some ideas. Plus it will give me some thing to work towards and take my mind off things.
I did realize one thing tonight. I really miss The Simpsons. I used to watch that show almost everyday. Now that all the TV stations are off the air, I can't watch it. I don't know if that means that I'm shallow or anything that I miss a TV show of all things. I mean, I miss my family and friends too. Sometimes its the simple things that affect you the most or something like that. I'm not sure anymore. I know theres a TV and DVD player here in the police station, so I'm going to keep an eye out for the DVDs. Hopefully I'll find a couple before the power is turned off.

Gone as Fast as He Came

Day 17: The past couple of days Hank and I have been exterminating the zombies in town. It seems like a never-ending task, though, which makes sense since the world is filled with zombies now. Everyday it seemed like there were more and more. They are starting to pile up now and I'm afraid of how things are going to smell once summer comes. I brought it up to Hank, but he said not to worry about it right now. Today we did some searching of nearby buildings while out exterminating and got in some trouble. We entered this one building. I think it used to be some sort of office. For what I'm not sure, but there were a lot more zombies in there than I thought. To make matters worse, when I turned around, Hank was gone. I took out as many of the zombies as I had to while looking for Hank. I'm getting a little better with killing zombies. Its not fun to me like it was with Hank, but I hope I never get that bad. I still think he was a little insane. Anyway, I search all over and could not even find a trace of him. No blood or anything. Its like he just vanished. I have no idea where he went or why. It was nice to be able to actually talk with another human being, though. Even if he was a little crazy. Now its just Eeyore and me again.

Not Like in the Movies

Day 14: We started on Hank's plan this morning and killing zombies is definitely not like it is in the movies, at least not for me. Maybe that means I still have a thread of my saneity left. I have seen plenty of zombie movies where everyone is killing zombies without any qualms about it. That was not me today. I couldn't get over the fact that they were someones mother or father, son or daughter just two weeks ago. I still saw them as human. I did take out a couple of them, but it was hard for me. I know I'm going to have to get over this if I want to survive much longer. Before I was just avoiding them the best I could and pushing those in my way and only killing those I absolutely had to. I was not enjoying it like Hank. He was really having fun today and it was quite disturbing. When we got back to the police station, he had blood splattered all over. He wore a mask so that none would fly into his mouth. I'll admit, he's good at what he does. He wants to go out and put another dent in the zombie population tomorrow. I'm just not sure if I can handle another day right away. I'm going to try to convince him to take a little break.

He's insane

Day 13: Ok, I don't want any bad karma or anything to come of this, but for the past week at least, I've been wanting to find another survivor so that I would know that I'm not the last person on the face of the earth. Its just my luck that the one that I find turns out to be crazy!
I managed to get to the truck this morning and go pick up Hank and bring him back here. Then we started talking again and thats when things took a very strange turn. He told me that he wants to exterminate all the zombies and make the world safe again. His idea is not the crazy part. Its how he acted while telling me. He was as giddy as a schoolgirl. The whole time he had one of those crazy smiles and I could see the bloodlust in his eyes. He thought nothing of bashing in the brains of every zombie in the world. Oh yeah, thats another part. He doesn't want to use guns because theres not as much of a rush. This guy is a homicidal maniac. And to top things off, he wants to start tomorrow. He seemed so sane when we were talking on the radio. I don't know how this transformation happened. Unless he wanted to get a feel for me before he let out his ruthless killer persona out. I don't know whats scarier, how acts when talking about his plan or how I'm starting to get excited for tomorrow the more he talks about it. Am I turning into some one like him? Is living in a world surrounded by the undead driving me insane?

Survivor

Day 12: I've found another survivor. There ended up being someone else in the building a block away. I saw him on the roof, but it took a little bit for me to get his attention. I just decided to start shooting at the zombies around his building. That way he knew I was friendly too, since I was shooting them and not him. We tried yelling to each other, but that just made us hoarse. Then he made me a sign with a CB radio frequency written on it. I ran downstairs to search for a radio. After about a half hour search, I found one and tuned to his frequency.
His name is Hank and he was a truck driver before the world was turned upside down. He was on his way through town when the outbreak happened, which his truck broke down in the middle of it. He managed to survive and made it to the building he is in now. He heard over the radio that the zombie apocalypse has happened all over the country and probably the world. We talked all evening about our previous lives and how we've been staying alive. We ended the night by starting to come up with a plan to unite. We think it will increase our odds of surviving. I'm going to try to somehow distract the zombies away from the truck and drive over so he can jump on top. Then we'll head back to the police station. Now I just have to figure out how I'll be able to safely get to the truck.

Increased Numbers

Day 11: Not much has happened the past couple days. I've just being enjoying my time with Eeyore. I did notice something interesting today when I was on the roof. I find myself going up there a lot. Its kinda how I can see whats going on in my part of the world. I've noticed more zombies walking around. I'm not sure what to make of this until I noticed a large crowd surrounding a building about a block away. Then I looked down around the police station and was shocked. There was a large crowd around it as well. I thought I was keeping quiet and not trying to attract them. I guess I didn't do enough, though. They have even surrounded the truck. I'm going to have to come up with a plan whenever I want to use it to get them away from it. Then it popped into my head. If there is this many around me, maybe that means there is someone alive in the other building that is attracting them. I wish there was some way to find out without going over there. I'll have to keep an eye out to see if anyone goes up to that roof. In the meantime, I have to double check all the doors and make sure they are barricaded enough.
With the increased numbers, I'm going to have to keep Eeyore's room for now. I didn't feel safe letting him outside all the time with the zombies walking around, so I trained him to use one of the rooms in the police station as his outhouse. I just try to keep it clean everyday. Its starting to smell, though, so I'm going to have to come up with something else. Its getting close to the stink of a thousand zombies walking around.

I've Found a Friend

Day 8: I decided to go up to the roof today and I'm glad that I did. I heard something moving around down by the truck. I figured it was just a zombie trying to find a way in, but I looked anyway. Instead of a zombie, it was a dog down there and a black lab by the looks of it. He must have smelled the bag of chips I dropped yesterday. I ran downstairs as fast a I could, grabbing a can of Spam on the way. As quietly as I could, I opened the back door. I knew there were no zombies down there when I looked and saw the dog. I opend the can of Spam and set it on the ground in front of me. The dog could smell it right away and looked at me. It took a little bit of trust, but eventually he came over to it and let me pet him. He looked like skin and bones. I have no idea how he survived this long. He didn't even a scratch on him. I looked at his collar and it said Eeyore like the donkey from Winnie the Pooh. He followed me inside and just in the nick of time. A handful of zombies were starting to come around the side of the building. I shut the door behind us and barricaded it again. I'm so happy that I found another living thing, even if it is only a dog. At least if gives me something to do and a purpose. Now I have to protect Eeyore and keep him safe as well as myself. This was one of the best things that happened to me and it couldn't come at a better time. I wonder if dogs can get the Z virus like in the video games and movies. Thats what I've been calling it. I sure hope not. If this dog can survive, surely we're not the only two that could in this forsaken world.

Alone

Day 7: I have not felt like writing the past couple days, but I decided to tonight. I have not done much yesterday or today. I woke up with a bad headache yesterday morning. I guess drinking half a bottle of Jack will do that to you. I brought the food in from the truck outside today. I think I might've drop a bag of chips, but I don't really care anymore. I'm not even that hungry, but I know I should still eat something, so I had a can of Spam today. Thats about all I did these past two days. I just feel so alone. I have thought about just letting the zombies get me. At least then it would be over, but I don't want them to benefit from my demise. There is no possible way that I'm the only person left in this world. I'm still holding onto hope, however, its getting slimmer and slimmer everyday.

Evac?

Day 5: What a rollar coaster of a day I had. I don't really feel like writing tonight, but maybe it will help pass the time. After my last entry, I loaded up the truck with supplies and weapons. I've seen enough zombie movies and played enough zombie games in my day to know to conserve ammo as much as I can. I brought along a couple police batons to use instead of the handgun whenever I can. I took on last look around before I left, hoping to never see it again.

My first stop was the grocery store. Its about halfway between the police station and the evac area. I made it there with very little resistance. I could already tell that the truck will hold up better than my car. While inside, I avoided as many zombies as I could and only took out those that I had to. I didn't want to attract any more of them, so I tried to be as quickly and quietly as possible. I grabbed mostly canned goods and chips with a couple bottle of booze as well. It can help celebrate getting out of this town. I never really like the taste of Spam, but I guess I'm going to have to get used to now. Its probably the only meat that good now even though the electricity is still working, but all the ground beef is a week old. With the truck filled with food, I took off for the evac area.

Boy was it a disappointment. What I feared about that explosion was true. It was the evac site. I don't know what happened but I looked like some fuel tanks exploded. I have no idea how or why, but there were still some fires burning. There was nothing left except a huge horde of zombies. It was the biggest I have seen so far. It had to be at least a thousand of them. With a horde that size, there is no way there could be any survivors. I had to get out of there before they noticed me. There was only once place to go and that was back to the police station.

I got back just as it was getting dark. I had little resistance on the way back as well. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. I thought this was a sure thing. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up, especially with that explosion the other day. I just chose to ignore it. Its not easy to admit it, but I broke down and cried tonight. It all feels so hopeless. Maybe I'll open up a bottle of Jack to end the night.

A Plan

Day 6: It works! The ladder works! I tested it out this morning and it worked perfectly. I also came up with a plan. There was a police SUV parked behind the station and after a quick search, I found the keys to it. I'm going to take that to the evac site with a pitstop at the grocery store. The truck should be able to take more of a beating than my car did. Lets at least hope so. Plus it would be able to hold a lot more supplies. I'm all out of food, but I couldn't eat at a time like this. I'm so excited. I just know this plan will work. This entry is the last thing I have to do before I leave, so I'm keep my fingers crossed that I'm getting out of this hell.

Hope

Day 5: I did some more searching of the police station today. In one of the offices, I found something promising. Left on a fax machine was an evacuation plan for the city and what looked like a landing zone on a map. The only problem was that its about 5 miles away on the outskirts of town. How the hell am I suppose to get there with hundreds of zombies waiting for me. At least I have something to work towards, though.

During my search, I stumbled upon a door that lead to the roof. I know they didn't have a helicopter, but I went up to have a look anyway. I was pleasantly surprised when I got up there. There was no helicopter, but it seemed like the zombies outside were distracted by something else. There was only a handful of them around the building now. I realized after I searched the rooftop that I could make a ladder some how and use it to get down to the ground. That way I would have safer way to get in and out.

I was about to leave when I heard an explosion. I looked and saw a mushroom cloud off in the distance. It wasn't a huge one, so couldn't have been a nuclear bomb. Judging the distance, it was the evacuation area on the map. All my hope for the future was suddenly gone.

I spent the rest of the day and evening making a ladder of sorts out of supplies that I found. I wanted it to be somewhat light so that I could pull it up when I was inside. I finally got it complete, but its too dark to test it out now. I'll wait til morning. I'm still planning on going there. Maybe some people survived the explosion or maybe they blew up a huge horde of zombies. Its still the best hope right now. I should have packed more food, too. I ate the last of it tonight and all I found here was a couple of bags of chips I found in a vending machine. I'll have to stop at a grocery store on my way to the evac site.

The Police Station

Day 3 and 4: I barricaded the front door and started my search of the police station. The lobby was small, but at least it was empty aside from some smears of blood on the wall and shell casings. The first couple of doors were locked, but I finally found one that was open. As soon as I opened it, I heard the characteristic moaning and shuffling of feet of a zombie. I was so terrified, but I knew that there are too many of them in the world in order to avoid them all. I had to learn to fight the fear and this was a perfect opportunity since there was only one. It was a older male cop from what I could tell. He was missing an arm and had chunks missing from his neck and torso. I pulled out my gun and fired. On the fifth shot, I finally hit him. Unfortunately, it was not a head shot, so he kept coming. After a couple more shots, one took him down for good. I sure hope I get better at doing this otherwise I'm not going to last long. Thats when I heard more moaning sounds coming from the hall behind me. The gun shots must have attracted them. I slammed the door shut and threw some stuff in front of it. I searched the room I was in, but didn't find much. It must have been an office for some of the officers. There were couple desks with papers everywhere. At least there was only one door leading into the room, though. I slumped up against wall in one of the corners and quickly fell asleep.

I woke up to scratching and moaning sounds coming from the other side of the door. They are terrifying sounds to hear when you are all by yourself and scared to death already. I sat there for some more time and realized I couldn't sit in this room forever. I had to do something, even if it kills me. I was ready to do something about it. I unblocked the door and let them come in. I was a better shot this time. There were four of them and I took them out with 7 shots. It took me a couple hours to clear out the rest of the station and seal all the doors. Now I have a safe place with plenty of supplies. I stockpiled a pretty good arsenal. Judging by the fact the sun was just coming up, it has to be the next morning. I found some blankets and made myself a make shift bed and fell asleep. I slept well into the afternoon.

Early Mistake

Day 3: There were not a lot of zombies out and about this morning when I finally got the courage to look. I did wonder where they all were thought maybe it took longer for the transformation than I thought. This lead to a very very bad mistake. I figured I'd be able to take my car around town to look for survivors. I thought the noise would attract them. Well, the noise attracted the zombies too. I got a couple blocks when I noticed they started coming out of woodwork. There was a crowd so large that it covered the whole road behind me. That is when it happened. I turned a corner and there was another large crowd of them. I had no other option than to go through them. I definitely should have picked a bigger car. I made it through, but broke down a couple blocks later. Apparently my car couldn't take the beating of running over a couple hundred zombies. I had to think of some place safe to go quickly. Then it popped into my head, the police station. Maybe there are still some survivors there and they have guns to defend against the zombie horde. I figured that would be my best bet, so I grabbed my backpack of supplies and food and ran in that direction.
When the police station was in sight, it was scene right out of a Resident Evil video game. There were bodies laying all over the place. Some were civilians some were cops. By the looks of it, most of them were killed by bullet wounds. There were some bodies that had chunks of flesh ripped out. This was a scene of a brutal attack. I was in shock just staring at it all. Then I heard moaning and was reminded of why I was running here in the first place. I picked up a gun and some ammo that were laying everywhere while I ran to the front doors. Who knows what horrors await me inside.

The Morning After

Day 2: I was able to get a couple hours of sleep last night. Thank goodness for that. When I first awoke, I was hoping that the outbreak was just a dream. After taking a look around, I quickly realized that it all did really happen. The electricity still worked, so I turned on the TV. All that I found, though, was static. The outbreak must have happened so quickly that no one was prepared. That or the warning signs were right in front of us with that flu epidemic where people were dying left and right. Maybe the government covered up the fact that they were not staying dead and couldn't keep it contained. Or maybe there just wasn't anymore room in hell like the tag line to Dawn of the Dead. Who really knows? I'm sure I'll never find out what really caused it all. I suppose I should start searching for others like me who survived the outbreak so far. There has to be more people out there. I can't be the only one. I have not even looked outside yet, though. Maybe there are zombies swarming all over already. There is only one way to find out ...

Despair

I'm starting to realize that everyone I knew is gone. I have been searching for hours and found no trace of them. Maybe that means that there is still hope. Chances are they are just walking around some place with no memory of who they were. I had find some random house to spend the night in. Thank goodness the owners were not home when this all began. I couldn't stay somewhere familiar because of all the memories of what things were like. All I could think about was how I could have tried to save at least one person earlier at work. I was selfish and only thought about myself. Now I have to live with that for the rest of my life. I will not give up, though. I will not let it all end like this. There has to be more people out there that survived like me. I just have to figure out how to find them. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what the morning brings. I just hope I can get some sleep.

Day 1

I always wondered what it would be like if a zombie apocolypse occured and whether or not I'd be able to survive. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever believe it would actually happen. When I saw it with my own two eyes, it didn't take long for me to realize what was going on.

I was at work with a hour left in my shift and nothing to do. All of a sudden, I heard a woman scream. I looked up in time to see a customer get tackled by another customer. The only problem was that the one doing the tackling looked like he was dead and was dead for a while and as far as I could tell, it was a "he." He was moving around like a live person, though. Almost like a walking corpse. Then it happened! The corpse bit the person underneith him. This was no friendly bite, but more like a fierce animal attack. A pool of blood started to form. Just thinking about it still makes my stomach churn.

I knew I had to get out of there if I wanted to stay alive. As I was running towards the from doors, others were trying to pull the zombie off. It was no use, though. The virus, or whatever caused it, was spread to four more people in a matter of minutes. There were more outside. There were people screaming and running everywhere. The world was falling into chaos. I ran to my car as quickly as I could. My only thought was that I had to get to my loved ones and make sure they were safe. One can only pray...
